maintenance works to Rivers in our local areas

Brighouse, Ashbrow, Dalton, Dewsbury East, Dewsbury South, Dewsbury West, Liversedge & Gomersal, Mirfield, Ossett, Horbury and South Ossett; the parish council of Kirkburton, Mirfield Town Council, the Calder & Colne Rivers Trust.

The environment agency recently carried out a scoping survey covering the River Calder from Cooper Bridge Huddersfield to Horbury Bridge at Wakefield as highlighted in the maps. This survey identified that there was a need for us to carry out tree work maintenance and vegetation clearance at certain spots along the River Calder. At the same time, we will be able to clear any other necessary debris and obstructions which can affect how flood water might flow. Obstructions can cause the water to behave differently, resulting in properties and business being put at risk of further flooding. This work, in summary, will reduce the risk of obstructions and help control the risk of flooding to people’s homes and businesses. We will be doing the work in small sections at a time and on both banks. This does not involve clearing all trees and vegetation, but removing only those that pose a flood risk.
